Affiliate disclosure
How GreenhouseGrid makes money, and the rule that keeps that from affecting what you read.
Last updated August 2026
What this means in practice
Some links from GreenhouseGrid to retailers are affiliate links. If you follow one and buy something, the retailer may pay us a percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid arriving at that retailer any other way.
This is disclosed here, in the footer of every page, and near monetized links themselves, in line with U.S. Federal Trade Commission guidance on endorsements and disclosure.
The rule we hold ourselves to
Affiliate publishing has an obvious conflict of interest. If one merchant pays 10% and another pays 5%, there is a standing temptation to list the 10% merchant first. That temptation is exactly what makes most affiliate sites useless for an expensive purchase.
So the rule is explicit:
- Commission rate is never an input into rankings, comparisons, scores or ordering.
- Commission rate never changes a specification. A snow-load rating is what the manufacturer published, regardless of who pays us.
- We will list retailers who pay us nothing when they have the better delivered price or the better fulfillment record.
- Merchant reliability is reported honestly even when the merchant is a paying partner. A retailer with a poor delivery record gets described that way.
- Any paid placement will be labeled as paid — distinctly, unmissably, and kept out of editorial ordering.
We are stating this publicly on purpose. If GreenhouseGrid ever stops honoring it, this page is the receipt.
Other ways we may earn money later
As the project develops, revenue may also come from:
- Referral fees from greenhouse installation and contractor services
- Clearly labeled sponsored placements, kept separate from editorial data
- Aggregated, anonymized market and pricing data products sold to industry participants
Each of those will be disclosed on this page before it goes live. Aggregated data products would never include personally identifiable information about individual readers — see our privacy policy.
No compensation for coverage
We do not accept payment in exchange for a product being included in the database, being rated more favorably, or being described in particular terms. If a manufacturer supplies us with a product to examine, that fact will be disclosed on the relevant product page.
